The
Swiss Foundation for Organs in Romania (SSOR) provides assistance
by encouraging individuals to help themselves. Young people will
be trained as craftsmen following Swiss standards and paid for by
the Foundation. The "niche professions" organ construction
and artistic carpentry have been selected on purpose since they
are in particular demand for the restoration and preservation of
historical objects in the country and for the manufacture of quality
goods that can be exported. The usual apprenticeship lasting several
years like in Western Europe and formerly also practiced in Romania
is hardly known in the country today. Consequently the Foundation's
intent is to also aid in the revival of a sustainable middle class.
